Gold (XAU/USD) traded near $4,050 in the early Asian session on Thursday. The move followed the Fed's decision to leave the benchmark federal funds rate unchanged at its October policy meeting.
Chair Kevin Warsh signalled that the central bank is ready to act if inflation requires it. Such a tone tends to support the dollar and weigh on assets that pay no interest.
Ahead of the decision, a separate report noted that gold had already eased while the US dollar climbed to a two-week high. Because gold is priced in dollars, a firmer greenback makes it costlier for holders of other currencies.
Investors now await the September PCE data, the Fed's preferred inflation gauge. A hot print could reinforce expectations of tighter policy and extend pressure on bullion, while a soft reading might ease it.
